Family Eucharist

‘Daily Bread’

Prayer thoughts: This Sunday’s Gospel reading describes Jesus’ discourse in the synagogue at Capernaum after his return from the feeding of the multitude. During this discourse Jesus is revealed as the ‘Bread of Life that came down from Heaven’ to give life to the world. The Gospel message challenges us to become ourselves, like Jesus, ‘bread and drink’ for others

You are what you eat?’ At every celebration of the Eucharist Christians recognise and give thanks that God teaches, feeds and nourishes us through Jesus Christ and assimilates us into his way of being. Thus, day by day we are called to grow into Jesus’ way that he may grow in us and transforms our lives so that we become more like him. The message is that we are called upon to share in the joyous and challenging life of being the ‘Body of Christ’ for the world – ‘Bread’ for a hungry world, and ‘Drink’ for those who thirst for justice, peace, fullness of life, and even eternal life. In other words, the Eucharist challenges us to be ‘Eucharistic people’ – ‘people of the Great Thanksgiving’ – and to sacrifice ourselves for others, as Christ has done for each of us. God bless, Paul
