Annual Parish Meeting draws residents & community groups

Residents attending Mortimer’s Annual Parish Meeting heard from guest speakers and saw local achievements recognised

The meeting was chaired by parish council chairman Graham Bridgman.

Guest speaker Matthew Barber, Police & Crime Commissioner, outlined his role in setting the strategic direction for policing across the Thames Valley area and covered priorities and accountability.

Jeff Brooks, Leader of West Berkshire Council, gave an insight on discussions with Basingstoke & Deane on its proposal for 350 homes in Mortimer West End and explained the Government’s imminent local government reorganisation, and what that could mean for the area.

The Community Award was presented to Tina Tomlinson of Mortimer Royal British Legion in recognition of her contribution to the community, notably to Mortimer Lunch Club, whose members nominated her.

The evening also included the presentation of prizes for the Parish Council’s photography competition “Spirit of Mortimer”, celebrating local talent and village sights.
