West Berkshire Council is set to create a new pedestrian crossing at the Three Firs roundabout, to connect with the footpath being developed between Mortimer and Burghfield Common.
The scheme comprises staggered dropped crossings and a central refuge island, allowing pedestrians to cross the junction in two stages. The work will include vegetation clearance, new signs, guardrails and short sections of new or improved footway.
The crossing is being delivered in support of the wider footpath project being constructed by Stratfield Mortimer Parish Council through the common and wooded areas between the two villages.
Work is due to begin on Monday 17 August and expected to take around two weeks, subject to weather and any unforeseen problems.
Temporary traffic lights will operate 24 hours a day during the works, with a temporary pedestrian route being provided.
Access to some nearby homes may be restricted for short periods while the new kerb line and footway are constructed. The contractor will advise affected residents of the relevant dates and times once work is under way.
The work iis estimated to complete by Friday 28 August.
