Organisers of the Transport Through the Ages vehicle parade are appealing for owners of specific vehicles to come forward for a themed section. The event planned for Mortimer in June is already expected to feature military vehicles, vintage and modern supercars, but organisers say they are keen for the line-up to reflect the full breadth of motoring history.
Vehicles being sought for a “Best of British” section include the Austin Allegro estate (ideally in Applejack Green and featuring the original quartic steering wheel), the Austin Maestro with its early voice-warning system and the four-wheeled Reliant Kitten. A Cool Wall display inspired by Top Gear would ideally feature the two-stroke Wartburg Knight, but owners are reminded that it will need to be towed owing to emissions considerations. Organisers say the pioneering Sinclair C5 could represent historic electric transport if one can be found, although a classic milk float may ultimately provide a more authentic example of practical electric motoring at the traditional cruising speed through the village centre.
Owners interested in taking part are invited to contact the organisers. As the parade will run to a fixed timetable, owners of British Leyland vehicles are asked, if possible, to arrive slightly early and may be asked to line up towards the rear of the procession to allow for minor period-correct mechanical adjustments.
