Berkshire Deputy Lieutentant meets the poppy train

Carol Jackson-Doerge,  Deputy Lieutenant of Berkshire, hands a wreath on behalf of the Lord Lieutenancy to the ‘Poppy Train’ for onward transfer to Paddington for the annual service of remembrance at its War Memorial.

During COVID when local memorial ceremonies were not always possible, “Poppy Trains” took wreaths from as many local communities as possible to Paddington Station to mark Armistice Day, allowing communities from across the Great Western network to be represented at the annual service of remembrance. Many groups asked for Poppy Trains again this year. This year brought additional focus on South Atlantic veterans, marking the 40th anniversary of the Falklands conflict.
