Plastic Free Mortimer

how it started

Plastic free communities are derived from Surfers Against Sewage, who aim to free our oceans of plastic waste.

set up by residents, led by Andrea, Plastic Free Mortimer is one of  many such communities in the country, working to reduce the level of needless plastic.

To highlight the amount of needless plastic food packaging, 37 people willingly removed 73 articles of unwanted plastic packaging from their shopping,  at Budgens Mortimer in March 2019!  Newbury’s Kennet Radio were on hand to witness it.

In a short time Plastic Free Mortimer’s team achieved several successes.

Alternative products:  we promoted plastic-free alternatives at Mortimer Fun Day  and with local businesses. Check out the ECO FRIENDLY LIST
Bring Your Own Container: promoting the use in shops and pubs
Carrier Bags: encouraging re-use. Supporting business include Loon Tin and Cinammon Tree
