windmill court

new plan announced

Following a petition to prevent residents’ eviction unless/until suitable local accomodation exists for them, Sovereign Housing  Association is expected to present a new plan for the site to West Berkshire Council soon.

The Association is expected to propose redeveloping the site to create six one-bed maisonettes, aimed at the current residents, two one-bed first time buyer homes and 16 two, three and four-bed properties. Ten of the latter would be shared ownership/social rent and six open-market.

The new homes are expected to be allocated in priority order to: current/former Windmill Court residents; over 55s from Mortimer then other Mortimer residents.  Under the plan Stafford House would remain.

To allow the proposal to go ahead West Berkshire Council would need to agree to lift the restrictions that prevent redevelopment of the main site.

The Association plans to attend the next parish council meeting on Thursday 9 March at the Methodist Church hall to explain their new plans. The meeting is open to the public – details HERE.
